Moorestown 16 - Agnes Irwin 8 (Reg Season)
Details of Game #16: May 09, 2017
Moorestown made a miraculous comeback, down 7-3 at half to score 13 straight goals and defeat Agnes Irwin of Pennsylvania 16-8.
It was a tale of two halves as Moorestown looked like it would repeat the same fate as their Ridgewood game, getting good looks but not finishing. AIS on the other hand was making the most of their opportunities, winning draws and finishing hard on their drives and shots, mostly eight meters from shooting space calls.
The second half was a wake up as the Quakers dominated draw control and hammered the Pa power. Thirteen straight goals off of great ball movement and finishing their dodges, gaining advantage thru shear determination. The result was four consecutive 8 meter shots and repetitive possessions making the AIS defense weary from having to defend a continued attack from every conceivable angle around the 12 meter.
Quinn Nicolai and Kayla Frank were dominant on the midfield circle getting possession after possession, six and five respectively. Cailin Field and Kacey Knobloch led the attack with five and four goals apiece and one assist each. Robin Panzarella was her usually dynamo with three goals, an interception and two ground balls.
The defense finally settled down and only allowed one second half goal. Much of it had to do with the offense working long possessions and having a high shooting percentage. The defense made it hard for AI to transition the ball upfield and just as significant was the automatic slides forcing the opponent to make bad decisions.
Up next is another big game against undefeated and nationally ranked Lawrenceville Prep.
